* Boll, adj. et adv. welches nur im gemeinen Leben gebräuchlich ist, und hart, steif, ungeschmeidig bedeutet, vornehmlich aber von solchen Sachen gebraucht wird, welche gewöhnlich geschmeidig sind. So nennen die Gärber das Leder, welches zu lange in der Gahre gelegen hat, boll, bull, oder bollig, weil es hart und spröde ist. Aber auch von dem Eisen sagt man, daß es boll oder bollig ist, wenn es spröde ist. S. Bolleisen. In einer andern Bedeutung ist dieses Wort in Niedersachsen so viel als löcherig, durchlöchert. So sagt man daselbst, der Maulwurf mache das Land holl und boll, hohl und löcherig. So auch von dem Brote, wenn es löcherig und schwammig ist. Eben daselbst ist bollern, bullern, einen hohlen dumpfigen Laut verursachen, verwandt mit poltern.

Anm. Es ist dieses Wort der Niedersächsischen Mundart vorzüglich eigen. Vermuthlich wird mit demselben auf den Schall gesehen, den dergleichen Körper, welche wider ihre Bestimmung ungeschmeidig oder auch hohl sind, von sich zu geben pflegen.
